OK - so it's probably not so 'inner' but it does display my dork-ness for the world to see. What a guilty pleasure. Most of the people I find on there, I don't really want to talk to. I just want to see a recent pic, see what they do for a living, make sure my kids are cuter, or at least as cute, and basically eavesdrop on their life just a little.
But good grief... tonight I'm sitting here waiting for my (first ever) pumpkin pie to cool (tomorrow is Christmas with my Mom/Stepdad at my sister's house) and I'm bored out of my mind. I've edited pics, sent off for copies from snapfish, almost finished my Christmas Letter (don't ask, that will have to be it's own post) and so I'm looking up people on Facebook. Guess who I found. Kevin Rollins. What? That doesn't mean anything to you? Well let me tell you who he is...
Kevin Rollins and I were in the same class in 3rd grade in Kerrville, Tx. We rode the bus together and he had slightly bugged eyes, which I had a 'thing' for, from about 2nd - 5th grade. Also, we both won different categories in the school's pumpkin decorating contest and had our pics in the paper (hmmm... pumpkin decorating and I'm making pumpkin pie tonight - wierd coincidence, no?) so he's in a pic with me (and some other kids without bug eyes) in my childhood scrapbook.
Anywho - we moved from Kerrville in 4th grade... in fact we'd moved 3 more times when we ended up in Ardmore.... then I went off to college in Denton, Tx at UNT.
So fast-forward 10 years and I'm sitting in the Bruce Hall Cafeteria with my then-boyfriend when I saw this guy walk by. "Hey I know him". I called out 'Kevin', and he turned around to look. So I called him over, re-introduced myself and we 'caught up' for about 15 minutes.
I should insert here that I have a freaky memory for people. I remember every person I've ever come in contact with. Makes me, and everybody I know, crazy. As I get older, I'm beginning to forget last names but I always remember faces and usually names. It's crazy, b/c nobody EVER remembers me... I have to re-introduce myself. A LOT.
Fast forward about 8 more years and I'm sitting at one of the fitness centers at Texas Instruments where I worked in the Rec Dept - you guessed it - Kevin walks by. He worked at TI as a computer something. Wierd, huh? I RE- RE- introduced myself and we did 3 minutes of catch up.
So - when I was bored tonight (that would be fast-forward about 10 more years) - I thought, I bet Kevin-the-computer-something is on Facebook and I'll be darned if he wasn't. So I sent him a message. I didn't ask to be his friend or anything - I just wanted to re-re-re introduce myself and whip him with the same story (minus the bug eye part) that I've just whipped all of you with. He probably thinks I'm stalking him... and maybe I am. Although, in all fairness, he walked by the first two times, this is the only time I've sought him out. Really.
Now my pie is cool so I'm going to bed. I'm going to finish that Christmas letter, maybe even this week, and I'll put my blog address in it. Maybe then it will be more than just me getting a kick out of my dorkiness! :)
